A new hybrid hard-disk, with a combination of flash memory and magnetic disk storage, will soon be introduced by Samsung Electronics. The hybrid disk is supposed to enhance system performance and battery life, as the disk will not be put to use until the flash memory, that acts as a buffer storage, is full.
As the buffer stored in flash memory is read faster by the system, its performance automatically improves allowing a maximum of 25 seconds faster booting. The prototypes with 128MB or 256MB of flash memory will be displayed at Microsoft’s Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC) in Seattle next week.
