These words from Bill Gates clearly reflect the kind of high the giant is on with its origami and I think it’s gone to their heads. Bill not mocking at the $100 laptop sans disk, sans software and sans high price, rather he was making fun of upright effort put on by MIT and Google to percolate technology to people who actually need them. The last thing you want to do for a shared use computer is have it be something without a disk ... and with a tiny little screen. If you are going to go have people share the computer, get a broadband connection and have somebody there who can help support the user, geez, get a decent computer where you can actually read the text and you’re not sitting there cranking the thing while you’re trying to type.
The $100 laptop will be distributed through UN programs to people in developing countries. Though it lacks many features of a personal computer, still the device is enough to help the people in developing countries who dream of making their lives better coupled with technology. And mind, Origami just can’t do that, especially when it’s a sham. Click here to know how.
The actual thorn in the ass is the support MIT is getting from Google, Microsoft’s staunch enemy, and Linux OS on which the $100 laptop will run and help it spread faster. But how can anyone compare the two. Both the devices, origami and the $100 laptop, target different users and are priced as per their functionality. Why not Microsoft comes out with a similar program, if they really want to do something positive in the tech world in stead of amassing wealth?
